"I have been in the heating business for 18 years. I bought the Charmaster II Furnace/Fireplace model and will gladly give references for you. It is the best piece of equipment I have ever purchased. I am very pleased with my Chateau furnace. I would recommend it to any of my friends as I have already done. Thank you for the excellent workmanship and design. A satisfied customer." Frequently Asked Questions

HOW MANY B.T.U. WILL THE FURNACE PUT OUT?
Wood Furnaces should not be rated by BTU's. Testing and rating in a test lab is NOT a real world situation. Variables inherent in wood species, moisture content, and draft settings all affect B.T.U. output. Charmaster Instruction Manuals provide information to obtain the most heat possible from your wood supply.
Stay Warm with a Charmaster A Chalet Model has a 24 inch long firebox, and is capable of heating homes in the Northern Minnesota climate of 2,000 sq. feet, or more. It will heat larger homes in moderate climate states.
The Charmaster has a 30 inch long firebox, and is capable of heating homes in Minnesota-type climates of 5,000 sq. feet, or more.

HOW LARGE SHOULD A WOOD FURNACE ROOM BE?
Do not crowd a wood furnace. The National Fire Protection Association requires 4 feet from the firing door to ANY combustible surface or wall. Leave 18 inches for all smoke pipes to a combustible surface. This results in an area 12-1/2 X 6 feet MINIMUM, assuming combustible walls on all four sides. 10' x 14' recommended.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN EXTENDED POWER OUTAGE?
All Chalet and Charmaster furnaces have an opening in the side jacket which is covered with a removable panel. When this panel is removed, cool basement air enters the opening. Your furnace is converted to a gravity heating unit. Many customers have been without power (due to ice storms, etc.) for several days and had no problems heating their homes. Heated air will rise and flow through your ductwork during this time. This feature has been a Charmaster exclusive since 1972.

HOW LONG HAVE CHARMASTER FURNACES BEEN MADE, AND WHERE ARE THEY MANUFACTURED?
Mass production of Charmaster Furnaces began in 1972 at their original facility in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. We have furnaces burning in every state except Hawaii. We also ship into Canada and the furnaces are CSA approved.

DO YOU HAVE A DEALER IN MY AREA?
Charmaster Products Inc. excels in factory direct sales. With our reputation you can rest assured you are receiving a quality furnace from a company you can trust. We pride ourselves on quality and service. Dealing one on one with the customer also saves you money. No one does it better than Charmaster.

DO YOU HAVE A CUSTOMER IN OUR AREA THAT WE COULD CALL?
Contact us on this. Many times we can locate a customer which would be convenient for you to contact.

I CANNOT CONTROL THE FIRE IN MY PRESENT WOOD STOVE. WILL YOUR FURNACE BE CONTROLLABLE?
Yes! The Honeywell thermostat will open the combustion air draft door when heat is required, and close it when the thermostat is satisfied. YOU DO NOT REGULATE THE HEAT IN YOUR HOME BY THE AMOUNT OF WOOD YOU LOAD INTO THE CHARMASTER/CHALET FURNACE. Simply load enough wood to do the job - normally, twice a day - and let the thermostat do its job. Most homeowners heat their home plus or minus about 2 degrees, all winter using wood.

HOW MUCH WOOD WILL A CHARMASTER FURNACE BURN IN MINNESOTA WINTERS?
An older 2,000 sq ft home will burn 5 to 6 cords. Approximate total cost of firewood cut and delivered at $90 a cord, around $540 a year. You will also receive free domestic (household) hot water during the winter months.

WHAT ABOUT ASH REMOVAL?
It's easy. The ashes fall directly into the ash pan. The ash pan is removed and dumped into an appropriate metal container. Most people remove ashes every two to three weeks. Certain wood species make more ashes.

WILL MY INSURANCE COMPANY APPROVE A CHARMASTER FURNACE?
All Chalet and Charmaster models are are safety tested and listed by E.T.L.M., the Energy Testing Laboratory of Maine, a nationally recognized testing facility. They are tested to CSA and UL standards. Each furnace has a permanent manufacturers safety testing label, and serial number riveted in place.

CAN I INSTALL THE FURNACE MYSELF?
Most of our customers can easily follow our installation Manual, and install the furnace safely. This is a standard forced air unit, therefore, any competent Heating Contractor would also be able to assist you.

IS YOUR CHARMASTER FURNACE LEGAL TO INSTALL ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES? IS IT LEGAL TO INSTALL THE FURNACE IN MY GARAGE?
We cannot possibly keep up on all of the state, county and local building codes in this country. Our furnaces have been tested by a nationally recognized testing facility, The Energy Testing Laboratory of Maine. Check with your local fire marshal or well informed ordinance or code personnel at your zoning office who are thoroughly acquainted with those matters. We will assist you.
Concerning garage installation, certain state, county or local codes may require various methods of eliminating dangerous situations with gas cans stored near any furnace. Again, check with your local fire marshal or well informed ordinance or code personnel.

The freight carrier we primarily use offers our customers a 68% discount on shipping charges. The rates listed do reflect the 68% discount. Please call us for a freight quote to your area.
